Switch Your Bitch and Gain Real Personal Power
Let’s be honest, we all have a bit of “bitch” in us.
Now before you clutch your pearls, stay with me. I’m not talking about the label society throws around to shame women. I’m talking about that fiery, determined, don’t-mess-with-me energy that lives deep within each of us. The part that says, “I’ve had enough.” The part that gets us through heartbreak, through exhaustion, through those moments when giving up seems easier.
That’s our Bitch, our inner fire, our courage, our boundary-setter, our truth-teller.
But here’s the thing: our Bitch has two sides. What I call my Light Bitch and my Dark Bitch.
The Light Bitch is our strength, our voice, our passion. She’s the part that stands tall, says what she means, and owns her truth. She’s the warrior spirit of women like Joan of Arc, who led armies with conviction; Boudicca, who fought for her family, tribe and people; Florence Nightingale, who revolutionised medicine through compassion and determination; and Frida Kahlo, who painted her pain into power.
Our Light Bitch keeps us going when things get tough, she’s the reason we rise after every fall. She is the constructive energy that keeps us going.
But then there’s the Dark Bitch. The shadow side, the destructive energy. She’s just as powerful, but when she’s unchecked or ignored, she can take us to places we don’t want to go. She feeds on resentment, exhaustion, and self-doubt. She lashes out when we’ve suppressed our truth for too long. And if we don’t understand her, she can easily take over.
How “Bitch” Became a Dirty Word
When women first started speaking up, I mean really speaking up, society didn’t know what to do with us. For generations, we were told to be nice, quiet, helpful, and pleasant. To be seen and not heard.
So when we dared to challenge that, we were named after feral dogs and called “bitches.” It was a way to keep us in line, to make us question ourselves, to turn strength into shame. But what if we reclaimed that word? What if our Bitch is simply our personal power, our ability to express, protect, and transform?
Our Hormones and the Bitch Within
I remember a time in my life when I couldn’t speak my truth, especially in my marriage. Every time I wanted to bring up something that mattered to me, I’d stay quiet, too afraid of rocking the boat. But then, right before or during my period, something in me shifted. Suddenly I could say it. The words came out raw and real, straight from my gut. Yep it could be very bitchy at times.
And of course, my ex-husband would roll his eyes and say, “Oh, you’ve just got your period, you don’t mean that.”
But here’s the thing, I did mean it. I just didn’t have the courage to speak my truth until a shift in my hormones gave me that strength. It showed me how to use positive light bitch energy to express myself, albeit not too gentle to start with.
So, I started using that energy, not as an excuse, but as a guide. I began recognising that the shift in my hormones gave me the opportunity to highlight truths I’d been too scared to voice. Over time, I didn’t need to wait for my period to speak up. I learned to control my “Light Bitch” and to harness that fire any time I needed it.
Our hormones are powerful messengers, not enemies. They’re part of our intuitive system, showing us what’s out of alignment and how we can address it.
When the Dark Bitch Takes the Wheel
Fast-forward to now. Recently, I found myself slipping again, my Dark Bitch creeping into my mind. A situation at home changed, and suddenly I was angry, resentful, and filled with thoughts that didn’t feel like me.
Someone who was meant to only stay for two weeks had been living with us for nearly four months, and I was ready to explode. I was caught between doing the “right thing” of being kind, accommodating, people-pleasing, and the other side of wanting to scream, “Get out of my house!”
I didn’t like who I was becoming. My thoughts were dark, vengeful even. I was fantasising about leaving my home and relationship entirely and that’s when I realised something had to change.
This was my “Switch My Bitch” moment.
Switching the Bitch
Intuitively, I knew I needed outside guidance. So I reached out to a close friend, one who knows me well enough to tell me the truth but is also spiritual enough to see beyond the surface. She’s psychic, like me, so our conversations go deep.
That catch-up changed everything. She helped me see the bigger picture, not by dismissing my feelings, but by helping me shift the energy. Together, we switched my focus from resentment to empowerment. From “Why is this happening to me?” to “What is this teaching me?”
The situation hasn’t magically disappeared but my energy has completely changed. My Dark Bitch isn’t running the show anymore. My Light Bitch has stepped back in, reminding me of my strength, my truth, and my boundaries. Putting energy into constructive thinking and actions rather than the destructive thought patterns I was constantly wrapped up in.
