Trusting the Process by Embracing Change and Growth
There are moments in life when we find ourselves gripping tightly to something that is slipping away. A relationship, a job, a vision of how we thought life would unfold. We fight, we resist, we hold on, believing that if we just try harder, things will stay the same. But they don’t. And in those painful moments of loss and uncertainty, we are being called to trust the process.
Imagine a relationship breakdown. In the thick of it, the emotions are raw, fear, sadness, and frustration. We struggle to understand why it’s happening, convinced that if we just fix one more thing, hold on a little longer, we can make it work. But no matter how much we fight against it, the relationship unravels. Its only year’s later, looking back, that we see the purpose in it. We recognize how that ending was actually a new beginning, how it pushed us toward self-growth, healing, and ultimately something better aligned with who we are meant to be. At the time, it felt like devastation. With hindsight, we see it as transformation.
That’s what trusting the process is about. Allowing life to unfold, even when we don’t know what lies ahead. It doesn’t mean giving up or being passive. It means embracing the flow of life with the understanding that what is meant for us will come, and what is not will fade away.
Why Trusting the Process Feels Hard
The hardest part of trusting the process is the uncertainty. As humans, we crave control, seeking assurance that everything will turn out the way we want. But life doesn’t work that way. Growth and transformation often come from discomfort and change, and the sooner we learn to surrender, the easier the journey becomes.
Fear plays a big role in our resistance. Fear of the unknown, fear of making the wrong choice, fear of being alone. These fears keep us stuck, replaying the same patterns, refusing to let go. But if we can lean into trust, even when we don’t have all the answers, we open the door to possibilities far greater than we could have imagined.
The Symbolism of the Scissors
Scissors are a powerful symbol of trust in the process. They represent the act of opening, cutting away what no longer serves us, and revealing something fresh and new. When we go through a life change, it’s like using a pair of scissors to cut the ties to the past—not in a way that erases our experiences but in a way that allows us to move forward without being weighed down. Just as a seamstress carefully cuts fabric to create something new, we, too, must be willing to make those cuts in our own lives to reshape our path.
The Three Pillars of Trusting the Process
To fully trust the process, we must embrace three key aspects: Allow, Open, and Experience.
- Allow – Give yourself permission to release resistance. Stop fighting against what is unfolding. Allow the lessons to come, even in pain. Let go of the need to control every outcome and trust that life is guiding you where you need to be.
- Open – Open yourself to new possibilities. Instead of focusing on what is lost, shift your energy toward what is ahead. New doors, new connections, new perspectives are waiting for you if you are willing to receive them.
- Experience – Be fully present in your journey. Don’t rush through the discomfort or try to numb it. Experience it, learn from it, and trust that it is shaping you into a stronger, wiser version of yourself.
Trusting the Process and Moving Forward
Think back to a time when you resisted change but, in hindsight, saw the beauty in the transformation. Perhaps a relationship ending led you to self-love. A job loss redirected you toward your true passion. A painful goodbye created space for something more aligned.
Life is always moving, shifting, evolving. The more we trust the process, the more we align with our highest path. So ask yourself: Where in your life are you gripping too tightly? What would happen if you let go and trusted the unfolding?
Trust. The process is leading you exactly where you need to be.
What’s Next?
